
Dishawn Adams is a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. She has more than 25 years of experience working in the criminal justice, mental health and addictions fields. She has worked in a variety of clinical and mental health settings (to include outpatient and inpatient drug and alcohol centers, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, and residential facilities for behaviorally challenged children, adolescents and adults, home-based, community based and residential settings). She has experience working with individuals with co-occurring conditions to include addictions, adjustment, anxiety depression and personality disorders).
Dishawn is trained to work with individuals, families and groups with a variety of needs. She enjoys working with couples to strengthen their communication, intimacy, relationship, and parenting issues. She works with ages 5 through adulthood. She has a supportive approach with individuals and families working through challenges brought on by life’s maturation process.
She is a former foster/adoptive parent and trained to assist teens with the transitional process of aging out of systems of care towards independence. She has served on teams (CPS/DPS, Family Court, CASA and attorney’s) to assist families for reunification and permanency plans.
Her goals are to provide an open communicative environment for patients to be able to express and explore their options for a healthy lifestyle. She maintains a relaxed open-minded approach to increasing opportunities for patients to improve coping skills, social skills and behaviors. She respects and values patient collaboration in their treatment process, individualized plans and objectives.
Dishawn understands that each client is uniquely designed, and therefore approaches each client differently. She utilizes avenues that are comfortable for the client to tie their thoughts, feelings/emotions to their outcomes and behaviors. She is experienced in utilizing Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Trauma Recovery and Empowerment.
